Theme: THE SUMMARY – LOVE

Dear friends in Christ, N’wokafu YESU KRISTO…

In his letter to the Romans, Paul admonished them to owe nothing to anyone except the continuing debt of love. For love fulfills the law (Romans 13: 8-9). Love is the fulfillment of the law, which is our obligation to God. Love is that which binds us to God. It is the foundation of our relationship with God.

In today’s Gospel text, Jesus is challenged once more with a third test in the series aimed at trapping Him. After the Pharisees and the Herodians, followed by the Sadducees, now came the Scribes with the prevailing question about how to summarize the law. As usual, Jesus gave an out-of-the-box response to provoke our thoughts.

Jesus wants us to understand that the love of God is paramount. It is that which drives everything, including our response to the commandments of God. Where there is love, there is no burden of offence. For Jesus, it is love that summarises and simplifies all things.

Every healthy relationship, including our relationship with God, must be built on love. An authentic Christianity is nothing but a loving relationship with God in Jesus Christ and with our neighbours. Many of the problems of Christianity today may be summarized in this simple question, ‘Do we really love God?’

When our coming to God is driven by true love and adoration, we come to worship. There is no burden nor arrogant demand in worship. It is rather an awe-filled admiration and the appreciation of the One we love. Love makes worship and faith as easy and practical as described in today’s first reading. The question to you is this: ‘Do you really love?’

PRAYER
Lord, may I grow to have a true love for You, and may this love of You animate all that I do. Amen.

May God bless you.
