St. Cecilia Church Choir was formed as Immaculate Conception Church Choir, Ho – Dome on 10th January, 1977. That was exactly 3 months after the erection of the Parish on the 10th October, 1976 as Immaculate Conception Parish, Ho – Dome.
The name of the Parish was later changed to St. Cecilia Parish, Ho – Dome which gave an automatic change of name of the choir to St. Cecilia Church Choir, Ho – Dome. History has it that, the name of the Ho – Diocesan Cathedral was supposed to be Immaculate Conception Cathedral, hence the need to change the Parishes name since it was not to be the Cathedral.
It should be placed on record that, at the time of the erection of the Parish, there was no choir at the R.C church Ho – Dome. It was a fact that, there was a choir those days when the church was an outstation to the Sacred Heart Parish but due to some reasons, that choir collapsed for many years before the erection of the Parish. Some members of the defunct choir left to join other choirs at Sacred Heart Parish, Ho – Bankoe. Some who were a bit advanced in age never rejoined any other choir and those who were very young then were approached to join the new choir which was formed as church choir. Some of those young people are still in the choir to date. After some years of formation of the Immaculate Church Choir, now St. Cecilia Church choir, a second choir was formed and the name of the defunct choir was given to it.
St. Cecilia Church Choir, has represented the Parish at so many functions and celebrations and raised high the name of the Parish. The choir again participated in several chorale competition both in Ghana and Togo and won a lot of awards. Also, it featured prominently in so many sing songs on GTV and GBC 1and 2, other several national stages and also on our local Fm stations in town. The choir has an album to her credit. The choir stand tall among the best chorale choirs in the region and beyond.
Notwithstanding all the success choked, the choir has some challenges which with the grace of God, will solve some of them.
Over the years, the choir lost very prominent members. May their souls continue to rest in peace.
St. Cecilia Church Choir, Ho – Dome will turn 50 on the 10th January 2027 three months after the Parish turns 50 on the 10th of October, 2026
Hurray.
