Reconciliation
Also known as Confession, the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation is one of the two Sacraments of Healing celebrated by the Church. The other is the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a profound experience of God’s mercy. It brings healing and restores our relationship with God, with ourselves, and with others, offering a personal encounter with a loving and forgiving Father.
In this sacrament, we confess our sins to a priest, experience true contrition and a desire for conversion, receive absolution, and renew our commitment to live a Christian life.
Reconciliation not only frees us from our sins, but also calls us to extend the same compassion and forgiveness to others who have wronged us.
The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation is, therefore, a joyful encounter with God’s loving mercy and forgiveness, as well as the Church’s reconciling embrace. It calls for a sincere response: a contrite heart, honest confession, humility, and the willingness to make satisfaction through acts of penance.
Lent is a penitential season during which we are encouraged to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation—to go to Confession. It is a time for repentance, conversion, and renewal, as we prepare our hearts to celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord.
