Sunday Gospel Reflection: Worshipping on Personal Terms
Dear friends in Christ, N’wokafu YESU KRISTO…
Beloved in Christ, one of the subtle temptations of our generation is the desire to worship God on our own terms. We want to be Christians, but we do not always want to embrace the demands and non-negotiable principles of the Christian life. We want to worship God as we please, doing what we feel is right rather than what true worship demands of us.
Our readings for today speak about the heavenly banquet and the invitation extended to all to come and participate in it. However, although the invitation was open to everyone, one man was thrown out because he came without the appropriate wedding garment. This teaches us that an open invitation does not mean we can come ‘dressed anyhow.’ The fact that God welcomes everyone does not mean we can approach Him without regard for the demands of the Christian life.
Beloved, we cannot worship God on our own terms. We cannot claim to be Christians while insisting on doing only what we like and rejecting what God requires of us. There are principles and demands that govern life in the Kingdom of God, and God, not our personal feelings or preferences, determines what true worship entails.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, grant me the grace to worship You not on my own terms but according to Your will. May my life be worthy of the invitation to Your heavenly banquet. Through Christ our Lord. Amen!
May God bless you.
